Given by the Associated Press/Oklahoma Newspaper Editors organization, the competition includes commercial newspapers with the circulation of 7,999 to 17,000. The Oklahoma Daily took home eight awards, including first place in General Excellence. Click here to see individual awards.
Gold Crown
Sooner 2007/Crimson Traditions 2006
Given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the Sooner yearbook and Crimson Traditions package was one of only two collegiate yearbooks to win the coveted Gold.
Gold Circles
The Gold Circle, given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, is the largest national competition for individual achievement in college, university and senior high school publications throughout the United States. The awards recognize the nation's best student journalists. For 2006-07, Student Media's two yearbooks, Sooner and Crimson Traditions, took home 16 Gold Circles, including four first-place awards and a sweep of a category (winning first, second and third). The Oklahoma Daily also won seven, and Sower magazine won one. Click here to see individual awards.
SPJ Oklahoma Pro Chapter Awards
Oklahoma's Society of Professional Journalists' awards pit the students of The Oklahoma Daily against the state’s professional journalists. The Daily was named the state’s second best newspaper in Division B (circulation of 7,000-17,999). Student staffers of The Daily won 20 individual awards, including 10 first-place honors. Crown Finalist, Sooner 2007/Crimson Traditions 2006
Given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the Crown finalist honors rank the OU yearbooks among the top 10 nationwide. Gold and Silver Crown winners will be announced at the College Media Convention in March. The Sooner/CT package is the ninth OU yearbook in a row to garner Crown honors.
